Ornithology Intern

Position Summary: 

The EcoTarium is the second oldest natural history museum in the United States. The EcoTarium’s ornithology collection contains specimens from the turn of the century and earlier and includes nests, eggs, study skins, and mounts.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern who is interested in working with museum staff to inventory, photograph, rehouse, and input data on this collection. Training in all of these areas will be given by EcoTarium staff.

  • Must be self motivated and have ability to work alone
  • Must have some background in ornithology from schooling, work, or personal hobby
  • Must be able to wear a respirator (no facial hair).  Training will be provided
  • Must pass a CORI background check in accordance with EcoTarium guidelines
  • Rehouse and clean portions of the collection
  • Inventory specimens
  • Take high resolution images
  • Data entry of specimen records
  • Note: internship will involve working with dusty specimens
