Part-time (15-22 hours per week; more hours during busy times of the year) flexible hours, including weekdays, weekends, and occasional evenings.   

Position Summary: 

The EcoTarium, a Museum of Science and Nature, is seeking Sales & Guest Services Associates for weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings. Ideal candidates enjoy working with people and have a can-do attitude. Exceptional communication, customer service skills, attention to detail, dependability and cash-handling experience are essential to this position.

The position is the primary contact for all visitors to the museum and is the public face of the EcoTarium.  The Sales & Guest Service Associate will handle admissions, orient visitors to the property, inform guests of activities and available programs as well as sell memberships, tickets to programs and events and museum shop merchandise. Associates take reservations for field trips, summer camp, and birthday parties either over the phone, email or in person. A part of this role is also to host birthday parties.

Qualifications: 
  • Must be over 18 years old
  • Customer service experience face to face, by telephone or email
  • Knowledge of good customer service principles, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Prior work in a call center and/or knowledge of a reservations system is a plus
  • Prior retail experience is desirable
  • Ability to speak another language is a plus
  • Candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and highly dependable
  • Comfortable with public speaking
  • Cash-handling experience
  • Experience working on PC, using MS Officer and using POS systems desired
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with proven ability to interact with the public of all ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to multi-task, while remaining detail-oriented
  • Articulate and mature demeanor
  • Must be in good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position.  Ability to move program equipment/supplies/merchandise up to 50 lbs and climb step ladders, navigate trails, work outside under any weather conditions and stand for prolonged period of time (it is a highly sensory and stimulating work environment due to constant interaction with guests).
  • Must work well with minimal supervision as well as a part of the team
  • Interest in science and nature is desired
  • Must pass CORI background check according to EcoTarium’s guidelines
Responsibilities: 

General

  • Adhere to the EcoTarium policies and procedures
  • Provide an exceptional guest experience by being pro-active in welcoming and offering assistance to everyone that enters the museum
  • Operate VISTA cash and reservation systems, as well as a QuickBooks POS system
  • Keep a clean and organized work area
  • Effectively communicate with all guests as well as your peers
  • Handle restocking of maps, tickets, forms, supplies and program inventory, and alert the Team Leader when supplies need to be ordered
  • Take initiative in problem-solving and be flexible and adaptable
  • Maintain files and place service calls for vending machines
  • Serve as the point of contact for inquiries and emergencies
  • Uniform/dress code required
  • Operate a radio and follow the radio procedure
  • Provide First Aid assistance

Ticket and Information Desk and Gate Admissions:

  • Process transactions related to admissions, programs and membership in a friendly and timely manner
  • Market and sell admissions, programs, memberships, and shop merchandise both in person and by telephone
  • Reconcile daily deposits, cash control records, and run daily reports
  • Make public announcements
  • Process arrival details of incoming groups
  • Receive deliveries and alert right departments
  • Update stanchions and other signage
  • Log items into Lost and Found database

Museum Store:

  • Process store transactions accurately in a friendly and timely manner
  • Check in, price and re-stock museum shop merchandise
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate re-order points
  • Ensure that the shop floor is kept tidy and organized at all times
  • Advise guests on the products and prices

Reservations:

  • Offer polite and friendly assistance to all callers
  • Take reservations in person and/or over the phone
  • Provide information and assistance via email
  • Enter the data into the reservations system
  • Maintain all records with high level or accuracy (great attention to detail is a must for this role)

Birthday Party Host:

  • Lead birthday parties and special events as needed on a variety of science and nature topics
  • Effectively communicate with parents and other hosts
  • Prepare, set-up, clean-up, and maintain program materials including craft supplies, paper goods and decorations
  • Handle animals for use in programs (appropriate training will be provided)
  • Work with team to enhance curriculum with creative ideas and activities
  • Keep upbeat and friendly attitude at all times
  • Adapt and tailor the sessions as needed
