Paleontology Intern

Position Summary: 

The EcoTarium is the second oldest natural history museum in the United States. The EcoTarium’s paleontology collection contains specimens from various sites throughout the United States covering different geological periods.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic intern who is interested in working with museum staff to do basic identifications of these specimens for use in educational programming.  Interns will also be trained in basic photography, museum collections inventorying, and data entry.  Some background in paleontology, either from schooling or hobby, is required to apply.

  • Must be self motivated and have ability to work alone
  • Must have some background in paleontology from schooling, work, or personal hobby
  • Must be able to wear a respirator (no facial hair).  Training will be provided
  • Must pass a CORI background check in accordance with EcoTarium guidelines
  • Conduct basic research on paleontology specimens
  • Inventory specimens
  • Take high resolution images
  • Data entry of specimen records
  • Note: internship will involve working with dusty specimens
