Adopt a Trail Volunteer

Effective Date:
Spring, Summer, and Fall
Position Summary:

The EcoTarium is a unique indoor-outdoor science and nature museum with a mission to inspire a passion for science and nature.

Two and a half miles of scenic nature trails loop our grounds. The Vibram Walking Trail loops our secluded lower pond. Stop at the pier and scan the shoreline for native wildlife, from sunfish, to turtles and even an occasional Great Blue Heron. The Meadow Trail is filled with the plants that grew in the area prior to European settlement.  The meadow, planted in the summer of 2000, is a healthy example of a southern New England ecosystem.

Our Adopt a Trail program embraces the interest and support of local organizations in helping us to maintain our trails for our guests to enjoy. The goal is to attract volunteers to walk our trails on a regular basis (Spring, Summer and Fall) and perform basic maintenance to keep the trails in good shape.

Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning up litter
  • Keeping trails clear from over hanging branches
  • Removing sticks along the trails
  • Reporting obstructions to our maintenance department

Initial training will be provided by the EcoTarium maintenance department. Gloves, trash pickers and trash bags will be supplied by the EcoTarium.
