Join the festivities at our annual Noon Year's Eve celebration with two kid-friendly countdowns at 12:00 noon and 2:00 p.m., create and toast resolutions, make 2016 time capsules, and more! Noon Year’s Eve at the EcoTarium offers fun the whole family can enjoy together!

And, enjoy the final day of our Holiday Vacation: Science for Wizards programs!

Noon Year's Eve Activities

  • 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Crafts and Activities
    Make 2016 time capsules and write new year’s resolutions (while supplies last)

    Toast the new year and sample winter flavors of Polar seltzer (while supplies last)

    Learn about energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions to help save money and reduce your carbon footprint

Wizarding Science Discovery Programs

Located in the Secrets of the Forest exhibit on the Middle Level

  • 11:30 a.m. Charms: Levitation
    Use science to levitate objects as we explore magnets, aerodynamics, and static electricity. Master the perfect wand technique to make your ‘feather’ hover around the room!
  • 12:30 p.m. Herbology
    Learn about the hidden properties of plants, near and far. Some plants will help you; others are not so nice. Get the inside scoop on which ‘fictional’ plants really exist and what might be growing in your own backyard!
  • 2:30 p.m. Care of Magnificent Creatures
    Would rats, cats, owls, and toads actually be happy living in a dormitory? Come meet some of our magically magnificent animals and learn what it really takes to give them a good home.
  • 3:30 p.m. Potions
    Experience the thrill of potions as you discover the world of chemical reactions. Watch closely as your Potions Master demonstrates how to brew foam and fire before your eyes, as if by magic!

Planetarium Shows*

  • 11:00 a.m. Passport to the Universe
    Narrated by actor Tom Hanks and created by the American Museum of Natural History in collaboration with NASA, this program whisks the viewer on a fascinating ride from Earth to the outskirts of the universe
  • 12:15 p.m. Astronomy: Wizards in the Stars
    Sirius and Bellatrix and Phoenix, Oh My! Learn to locate some familiar (and not so familiar) witches, wizards, and magical creatures during this live, interactive planetarium show, designed and presented by our own Education staff.
  • 2:15 p.m. Mysteries of the Unseen World
    Presented by National Geographic Entertainment and Day's End Pictures, this show takes audiences on an extraordinary journey into hidden dimensions beyond our normal vision, uncovering the mysteries of things too fast, too slow, too small or simply invisible.
  • 3:00 p.m. Astronomy: Wizards in the Stars
    Sirius and Bellatrix and Phoenix, Oh My! Learn to locate some familiar (and not so familiar) witches, wizards, and magical creatures during this live, interactive planetarium show, designed and presented by our own Education staff.

*Tickets to shows in the Alden Digital Planetarium: A National Geographic Theater can be purchased at the Tickets and Information Desk on the day of your visit. Tickets: $5 per person (plus museum admission)/$4 per person for EcoTarium members

Refreshments

Lunch and snack items will be available for purchase from Eric's LaPatisserie between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Beverage and snack vending machines are available inside the museum on the Middle Level. In addition, picnicking is welcome on the EcoTarium grounds.
