Designed with home schooling families in mind, but open to all, this series of small animal-focused classes provides an intimate setting for child-driven learning. Each 90-minute class is designed for children ages 6-12 and is taught by an EcoTarium educator. Children will be participate in learning groups of ages 6-8 and ages 9-12.

In each program, children will meet some of the resident mammals, birds and reptiles of the EcoTarium. Where is each animal’s place in its ecosystem?  How has each animal survived and adapted to the conditions in its habitat? Where is each animal from and why does it now live at the EcoTarium? How does the EcoTarium staff keep animals engaged and happy through specially designed training and enrichment activities? Children will answer all of these questions and more in these fun classes packed with natural science education. 

Reptile Adaptations

Wednesday, March 28 - 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Reptiles were roaming our planet before the dinosaurs and they still live successfully in many parts of the world. While observing live reptiles, kids learn about these animals’ strategies for evolutionary success and their prospects for the future.

Birds: Modern Day Dinosaurs

Wednesday, April 4 - 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Kids learn about the raptors (birds of prey) that live right here in New England and compare them to the parrots found in tropical regions. How have birds adapted to fit in to unique habitat niches? What is their evolutionary background? They discover how birds come to live at the EcoTarium and how are they cared for while they live here.

Mammals from New England and Around the World

Wednesday, April 11 - 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.
Mammals come in a variety of sizes and shapes and are well adapted to live in unique habitats around the world. Kids learn how mammals have evolved and how animals are kept happy and healthy at the EcoTarium.

To ensure strong learning experiences and small class sizes, each class is limited to 15 participants ages 6-12. Parents and older or younger siblings may not sit in for the class. Parents may drop off and pick up their child in the museum classroom.

$35 per class. $25 for EcoTarium members. Advance registration is required.
