Turtle Travels

Turtles take amazing journeys and they need your help along the way. Have you ever spied a Swiss Army Turtle? Or tracked a turtle with radio telemetry? Wander through a life-size board game and see firsthand what it's like to travel through a turtle's terrain. This fun-filled, interactive exhibit provides a turtle's eye-view of life in the "slow lane."

Preschool and Toddler Wednesdays

Wednesday is Preschool and Toddler day at the EcoTarium! Kids ages 4 and under enjoy a story, make crafts, and meet an animal. Each week features a different theme and surprise animal visitor. The program includes a simple snack (apple juice and animal crackers for kids, coffee and tea for grownups). Bring your friends and explore the museum afterwards!

Tickets are first come, first served at the Tickets and Information Desk. The story and animal circle is held at 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Drop-in craft time continues from 10:30 a.m. through 11:30 a.m.

Preschool and Toddler Wednesday programs are not held during the February, April, and December school vacation weeks (Worcester Public Schools schedule).

City Science: The Science You Live

Discover the hidden science stories all around us at the EcoTarium's newest, hands-on interactive exhibit! The middle level of the museum has been transformed for this 2,500 square foot exhibit featuring live animals, interactive components, and natural history specimens, to give children and families the opportunity to experiment, engineer, and observe the science that is happening on our streets and in our neighborhoods.

Enjoy tabletop games that feature STEAM-based learning, including favorites like: UNO, Skipbo, Spot it, Checkers, Dominoes, Rack-o, Tangoes, Chutes and Ladders, and Rummikub. And engage in games with giant pieces! Our giant game sets include Connect Four, Jenga, Mancala, Hopskotch, and Chess.

Bubbles!

Everyone loves bubbles, and our seasonal outdoor exhibit gives kids (and grownups) of all ages a chance to make loads and loads of sudsy bubbles in all shapes and sizes. Experiment with how they are formed, the colors they produce, and their amazing properties. And while you're having fun making all those bubbles, you'll learn about such things as surface tension, evaporation and light reflection.

A Night at the Museum

Nature Explore: LIVE! - Ecology of Sound

Join us for a series of exciting live performances on the Music and Movement Stage in our Nature Explore® Outdoor Exhibit held on select Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. in July and August. Explore science and nature topics through educational and interactive experiences!

On Thursday, July 13, experience the "Ecology of Sound." A high energy interactive performance with Ricardo Frota, a Brazilian musician, who creates instruments from recycled and nature found objects. The program introduces the cultures of Brazil through music, singing and dancing. Audience members of all ages will enjoy making music. Watch and listen as Frota plays a tree as a percussion instrument.

On Thursday, July 27, The Piti Theatre Company's production tells how Farmer James has lost his bees, there's only gruel to eat and now the townspeople (the audience) have arrived to protest, chanting "There's no good food, we're in a bad mood." To Bee tells James' comic, tragic and ultimately hopeful story -- complete with puppetry, clowning, dance, live music and lots of audience participation. Piti Theatre Company created this internationally touring performance to raise awareness about the honeybee's plight and gives children and adults tools for helping bees thrive in their communities.

Nature Explore: LIVE! - A Passion for Birds

Join us for a series of exciting live performances on the Music and Movement Stage in our Nature Explore® Outdoor Exhibit held on select Thursdays at 11:00 a.m. in July and August. Explore science and nature topics through educational and interactive experiences!

Using masks, comedy and continuous audience participation, Lappen explores how and why birds have adapted to their environment. Science comes to life as he demonstrates how birds move and act. Learning some specific mime skills, the audience joins Lappen in this highly interactive program as he takes on the character of each bird. Participants don masks and soar as eagles, stalk as herons and swim as puffins.

On August 13, Mike Rinker and Anna Crocker burst onto the stage with interactive drumming and dancing inspired by the music and the people of West Africa. This high-energy, celebratory performance is designed to get the audience up onto their feet, moving, singing, and drumming to traditional rhythms.
