Summer Camp: Counselor-in-Training Programs for Teens
Train today to become a camp counselor! Volunteering at the EcoTarium's Summer Discovery Camp is a fun way to spend the summer and a great way to learn about education, science and nature while adding valuable community service experience to your resume and college applications.
We're seeking responsible teen volunteers ages 15 to 17 to become Counselors-in-Training (CITs) at EcoTarium's Summer Discovery Camp.
CITs will work with a college-aged mentor counselor under the direction of the Assistant Camp Coordinator and will gain valuable experience working with children ages 7-14 in a camp setting.
CITs are an important part of the camp community and are encouraged to participate in all activities. You'll be immersed in topics such as ecology, study of animal behaviors, animal care, astronomy, natural sciences and weather, activities to improve sensory awareness, group and team-building initiatives, and more. It's a great opportunity to earn community service credit in a fun and engaging way (a stipend of $50 per week will be offered).
Who should apply?
- Teens ages 15-17 with an interest in animals, astronomy, nature and science
- Responsible individuals who can commit to a minimum of two weeks of camp and attend camp leadership training. Training sessions take place from June 28-July 2.
- Adventurous people who would like to have an important role in a camp community
- Teens who are considering careers in science, nature studies, museum work or education.
Why should I apply
- To earn community service hours for graduation, honor society requirements or college applications (this is a volunteer opportunity)
- To learn more about science and nature
- To gain individualized leadership training and hands-on experience working with children
- To make new friends
