Volunteer Program
The EcoTarium needs you!
We simply could not offer the programs and special events that make the EcoTarium such a special place without our diverse and wonderfully dedicated corps of volunteers. As a volunteer, you will assist the EcoTarium in carrying out its mission while helping to make our visitors' experiences both fun and educational. Working along side our professional staff, you will acquire new skills and enhance your knowledge.
If you love the natural world and are attracted to the EcoTarium's mission "to promote appreciation, increase knowledge and foster stewardship of our New England environment," please join us!
Volunteer opportunities
- Each volunteer participates in a general orientation to the EcoTarium, and additional training is required for many volunteer jobs. Volunteers can be found in every department of the museum.
- At the Visitor Center, greeting museum visitors and informing them of programs and activities.
- On the museum floor, interpreting exhibits, such as the Curator's Workshop, MicroDiner, Marine and Freshwater exhibits, and Discovery Room.
- In the classrooms, assisting our education department in presenting programs for school groups.
- In the Planetarium, assisting our astronomer with programs for school groups and other visitors.
- In our wildlife habitats, assisting staff in the care and feeding of our resident wildlife.
- Behind the scenes, assisting with cataloguing the EcoTarium collection, with clerical tasks and groundskeeping and much more.
- Helping with special events, such as Jazz at Sunset during the summer and A Polar Bear's Journey during December.
Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds, and each brings a unique perspective and experience to the museum. Their knowledge is shared with the public through natural history education, caring for wildlife and participating in community outreach.
