(WORCESTER, Mass.) &emdash; How will you dazzle your beloved this Valentine's Day? Another candlelit dinner? Another box of chocolates? More flowers? Perhaps this is the year to consider canning the "same old, same old" and do something wholly unexpected? For those looking for a unique way to celebrate the evening, romance will be in the air &emdash; and the stars &emdash; at EcoTarium's Valentine's Day Star Party on Saturday, February 14.
This unique and cozy special event for couples combines EcoTarium's popular SkyWatch program of telescope viewing and an astronomer's overview of the night sky in the planetarium with readings of romantic poetry, a wine and cheese reception, and even a red rose for each couple. Two programs are offered at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
Astronomer Ed Frederick, your host for the evening, offers interpretation of the night sky in the museum's planetarium following live readings of heartfelt poetry, including traditional selections from such notables as the Persian mystic Jalal Rumi, William Shakespeare, Ogden Nash and others. Then couples wander outdoors for telescope viewing of the winter sky, where the featured attraction is the stunning planet Saturn. View the planet and its beautiful rings as never before through high-powered telescopes mounted on EcoTarium's Sundial Plaza. Then turn your gaze to the other gems of the February night sky. Of course, there's plenty of time to warm up with wine and cheese throughout the evening.
The Valentine's Day Star Party is $28 per couple, $24 for EcoTarium members. Reservations are strongly recommended, as space is limited. Call (508) 929-2703 to reserve. If the skies are overcast, the indoor program will proceed, and participants will receive a rain check for a future SkyWatch program.
