(WORCESTER, Mass.) -- The EcoTarium has sold four acres of underutilized property at the eastern end of Franklin Street in Worcester to the Seven Hills Foundation.
Over the past two and half years, the EcoTarium has become more financially sustainable by evaluating and improving the programs and exhibits it offers guests and cutting its spending. It has also sought to evaluate the value of its land holdings. As a result of this assessment, the EcoTarium decided to sell four acres of land abutting its property that had no programmatic use. The funds from the sale will enable the EcoTarium to consolidate precious resources, pay down some debt, and focus funds on improving the guests' experience at the museum.
After careful consideration and ample research, the well-respected Seven Hills Foundation was clearly the best choice of a buyer for both the EcoTarium and the neighborhood. Stephen Pitcher, President of the EcoTarium, says, "The EcoTarium takes its role as part of the cultural and historical landscape of the neighborhood and Worcester very seriously. The Worcester Natural History Society was founded in Worcester in 1825 and the Board of Trustees and staff of the EcoTarium look forward to continuing to serve the families of Central Massachusetts for many more years to come."
EcoTarium, A Museum of Science & Nature, offers three floors of interactive exhibits, wildlife habitats, interpretive nature trails, Massachusetts' only digital planetarium, and a narrow-gauge railroad. The museum, located at 222 Harrington Way in Worcester, Mass., is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sundays 12 to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors, college students and children ages 3-18. Parking is free. For information, please call (508) 929-2700 or email info@ecotarium.org.
