(WORCESTER, MA)— This fall, it's a raptor spectacular at the EcoTarium's Hunters of the Sky Festival on Saturday, October 16. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the museum and grounds will be loaded with fun-filled family activities celebrating birds of prey.
The whiz through the air! They see at night! Some can even swim! Come nose to beak with real raptors— from the practical owls of Hogwarts school to our majestic national bird to the fastest bird on Earth!
During this day-long event, visitors can:
- Meet and learn about birds of prey— hawks, falcons and owls— live and up close with master raptor handler Larry Keating.
- Join the Phoenix Swords troupe for a puppetry performance all about raptors- and even interact with puppets and try on puppet-sized falconry equipment based on gear from our museum.
- Watch a medieval martial arts "knights and nature" demonstration of Sword and Buckler by the Higgins Armory Sword Guild— and discover the similarities between the natural defenses of people and birds of prey.
- View the new exhibit The Peregrine Falcon: Return of an Endangered Species to learn all about one bird's amazing journey back from the brink of extinction.
- Join local artist Andy Volpe to make take-home drawings of raptors using museum specimens as models.
For the Hunters of the Sky Festival, the EcoTarium is offering half-price museum admission all day— $4 for adults and $3 for seniors, college students and children ages 3-18. Major support for the Hunters of the Sky Festival is provided by Massachusetts Electric and the Yawkey Foundation.
