(WORCESTER, MA)— Get set for a ribbiting good time as frogs from all across the world leap into Worcester's EcoTarium for a fun filled and interactive exhibition that takes a unique look at these animals that hop, swim, and climb.
Set in the land of fairytales, Frogs! is sure to engage visitors of all ages and provide an unusual perspective on some amazing amphibians. Discover fascinating frogs of all shapes, sizes and colors, from their beauty and form, cultural and natural history. Hop on over and we promise, you'll never look at a frog the same way again.
The exhibit includes a number of live frogs from across the world, including:
- Colorful poison dart frogs from the tropics
- A 12-foot tree with live monkey frogs, a species of frog with waxy skin that allows it to bask in the sun.
- A 5-foot diameter donut-shaped crawl-in tank featuring aquatic clawed frogs
- A reverse-lit habitat for nocturnal frogs allowing visitors to see them during their active time
- Native frogs from New England
- Frogs! also includes several fun components especially for kids, including:
- A cutout "witches brew" stand-up where visitors can stick their heads through and pose for photographs
- A large "crowned frog prince" that kids can climb on (and that "talks" to passers by)
- A gallery of "famous frogs" including Kermit the frog and others
The lively setting will have visitors leaping from one station to the next as they listen to frog calls, explore a Freaky Frog Gallery" featuring large color images of weird and interesting frogs, test their own leaping skills at a measured jumping wall, and see slow motion video of frog locomotion, including a frog splashing into water with his powerful hind legs and a frog attacking a scorpion.
Visitors will discover what makes a frog a frog, the history of frogs, how frogs camouflage themselves in nature, how they hear and eat, what their inner anatomy looks like and more.
Frogs!, a traveling exhibition developed by the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, will be at the EcoTarium from April 3 through Labor Day. Admission to FROGS! is free with EcoTarium admission.
