Internship: Marketing & Development
EcoTarium internships provide experience working in a unique museum of science and nature. The internship program is open to undergraduate juniors and seniors and/or graduate students.
Position Description
Communications Intern
The intern takes on an active role in marketing museum offerings and works directly with the Marketing and Communications Manager. This person will have contact with the other members of the marketing and development team, as well as other departments and possibly with the museum public. The intern will be involved in media relations, promotions, special events, and research.

Responsibilities
Specific writing projects that include, but are not limited to, pitch letters, press releases, advisories, fact sheets, and project descriptions. Setting up and attending promotional events and programs. Assist in maintaining the database by researching, compiling and updating media lists. Assist with the distribution of news releases and other materials through mailing, faxing, web and follow-up phone calls. Provide support for special projects, including the museum's web site, e-newsletter and photographic files. General office duties will be required such as filing, photocopying, answering phones and faxing. May be called upon for photography.
Qualifications
A strong interest and some coursework in communications, marketing or public relations essential. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with media, other organizations and the public are required. Computer skills a must. Photography or design skills desirable. Dreamweaver and Photoshop skills are a definite plus.

Structure of Internship
- Time commitment will be the equivalent of at least one full day per week, two days per week preferred.
- Some weekend or evening work may be required.
- Students who wish to receive course credit must arrange this through their college or university
- Students will be assigned to and guided by museum staff
