Internship: Exhibits & Programs

EcoTarium internships provide experience working in a unique museum of science and nature. The internship program is open to undergraduate juniors and seniors and/or graduate students.

Position Description

Collections Intern

Help dig for dinosaurs, and other fossils in the collections of the EcoTarium! In preparation for an upcoming exhibit on pre-historic New England we are looking for a collections intern to work with the natural history and archival collections at the EcoTarium. The intern would help to identify potential specimens for the exhibit, and research the museumÕs involvement in early fossil discoveries in the region. The EcoTarium is the museum of the Worcester Natural History Society. The society was founded in 1825 (as the Worcester Lyceum of Natural History) and is the second oldest natural history organization in the United States. Historical collections and records date from all periods in the museumÕs history.

Responsibilities

The collections intern would research relevant collections materials (including fossil material, and historical documents and photos). The intern would help to identify and catalog relevant specimens and materials, and assist in conservation work on the collection. The intern would work with the Manager of Exhibits and Collections and the Director of Exhibits and Programs.

Qualifications

Relevant experience and expertise would include a background and interest in either Palentology or Collections Conservation or historical research.
